Newark -- Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, and Newark Public Safety Director Brian O’Haraannounced today that the Newark Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force are investigating the fatal shooting of Mr. Altarik F. Rushing, 27, of Newark.
Authorities said Tuesday, July 13, shortly before 11:00 pm, Rushing was shot on Van Vechten Street in Newark.
According to police, Rushing was transported to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 11:40 pm.
A second male victim sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
No arrests have been made.
