UPDATE: Gunman Shoots Newark Man Dead in Broad Daylight

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office, led by Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, is currently conducting an investigation into the fatal shooting of 22-year-old Jaheem Futrell of Newark.GenceptzThe incident, which has sparked an intensive investigation by the Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, occurred in the early hours of March 2.

At 10:47 a.m., the Newark Police Department was alerted to an emergency involving an injured male on the 300 block of South 8th Street in Newark.

Upon arrival, law enforcement officers found Futrell with a gunshot wound.

Despite the quick response, Futrell was pronounced dead at the scene by 11:14 a.m.

As the investigation unfolds, it remains active, with no arrests made thus far.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office is reaching out to the public for any information that could aid in the investigation.

They have established a confidential tips line at 1-877-TIPS-4EC (1-877-847-7432), urging anyone with relevant information to come forward to assist in the ongoing case.

The community’s cooperation is crucial as authorities work to uncover the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of Jaheem Futrell.
