UPDATE: Police Identify Man Shot Dead in Newark's North Ward

An overnight shooting that killed a man in Newark's North Ward has authorities on the search for the victim's killer.

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose announced today that the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department, is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred overnight.

According to a statement released to RLS Metro Breaking News, at approximately 11:27 p.m. yesterday -**Thursday- Mr. Shakill Inzar-Springer, 24, of Newark** was shot in the 100 block of Riverside Court, a housing complex in the city.

Officials say Springer was rushed to Rutgers University Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead at 12:05 am.

According to sources close to Springer's family, he was a Newark resident and a graduate dance major at Arts High School.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
