UPDATE: Gunfire Kills Irvington Man on Newark South Ward Street

Newark --Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose announced today that the Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department, is investigating a fatal shooting.

Police say two males were shot in the area of Maple Avenue in Newark at approximately 7 p.m. on Monday, May 6th.

According to police, one of the males was shot in the leg and is in stable condition. His name is not being released at this time.

The other man sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at 1:40 a.m. Tuesday at University Hospital.

The deceased victim has been identified as Mr. Murad Harris, 40, of Irvington according to police.
