Update: Grandmother, Two Children Struck by Postal Truck; Child Succumbs to Injuries

An investigation is underway after a grandmother with two young children was struck by a Postal truck in Elizabeth killing one of two kids.  

First responders rushed to the area of Rahway  Avenue and Chilton Street at around 10:30 a.m. where they found a grandmother, 4-year-old and 2-year- old children suffering injuries at that location. 

The woman was reportedly carrying one of the kids in her arms when the postal truck struck her and the other child that was walking with her.

The 2-year-old girl was taken to Trinitas Regional Medical Center in Elizabeth were according to officials succumbed to her injuries at 11:09 a.m.

The grandmother and the second child were transported to University Hospital in Newark in unknown condition.

The driver of the Postal vehicle was taken to police headquarters. 

The identities of the victims have not been released at this time but officials did confirmed that the three victims were struck by the postal  truck.
