UPDATE: Fourth Victim of Violent Route 22 Car Crash in Newark Dies

Newark

Officials have confirmed that a fourth person involved in a crash on Route 22 in Newark has died.

According to officials, Ms. Asanti Mcnair was one of five passengers inside a vehicle that slammed into the guard rail then burst into flames in early June.

In a statement released by the Essex County Prosector’s office last month, officials said on June 9th, at approximately 11:11 p.m., a Cadillac CTS was involved in a single-car crash on Route 22 that resulted in the death of Ms. Taylor Hill, 19, Mr. Kamal Johnson, 18.

Both were passengers in the vehicle and both were pronounced dead at the scene.

A third male victim, Mr. Nashawn Brooks, 20, of Irvington, was transported to University Hospital. He was pronounced dead at 11:57 a.m. on June 10.

Officials say McNair and the driver of the car remained in critical condition at St. Barnabus Burn Center, where McNair was pronounced dead earlier today.

Officials said Hill, Johnson, and McNair, were all 2019 graduates of Arts High School’s Dance Department.

Since 3 pm today, over 100 people expressed condolences to McNair on social media.

The investigation is active and ongoing.

The preliminary investigation indicates that speed does not appear to be a factor in the crash, Essex County Prosecutor's Office said.
