The East Orange Fire Department are on the scene battling a four-alarm fire that ripped through four buildings and had over a half dozen companies at the location on Friday.

City officials said the fire started at Sally’s B-S Hair Braiding, located at 225 Central Avenue, at approximately 12:26 p.m.

Officials say the fire quickly escalated and spread to three other businesses in that block, however, all employees and customers exited the buildings, escaping injury.

One East Orange firefighter is being treated for minor injuries at Clara Maas Medical Center in Belleville, city officials said.

Responding mutual aid agencies include Orange, South Essex (formerly known as South Orange), West Orange, Millburn, Cedar Grove, Bloomfield, Belleville, and Nutley.

Central Avenue is currently closed between Oraton Parkway and South Munn Avenue.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
