UPDATE: Five Newark Juveniles Arrested in Early Morning Monmouth County Stolen Vehicle Crash

Wall Township

Police took several Essex County teens into custody after an early morning stolen car crash resulted in a foot pursuit in Wall Township Thursday morning.

According to a statement released by police, at approximately 1:15 a.m., the Wall Township Police Department located a 2017 Audi reported stolen out of New Providence crashed into a telephone pole at the intersection of Allaire and New Bedford roads.

Police said when officers arrived at the scene, they noticed five occupants fleeing from the vehicle on foot.

According to police, all of the occupants were apprehended a short distance from the crash scene. Police confirmed that the five suspects are juveniles from Newark.

They were charged with receiving stolen property, joyriding, obstructing the administration of justice and multiple motor vehicle summonses. Due to the suspects' ages, police would not release identities.

Monmouth County officials said most towns in the county have seen an increase in motor vehicle thefts recently. Wall Township residents are reminded to remove the keys from their vehicles and all personal items and lock their doors.

It is not immediately known if the captured suspects are responsible for the rash of car thefts at this time.
