UPDATE: Fatal Shooting in Trenton Under Investigation After Homeowner Opens Fire

Authorities in Mercer County announced that the Mercer County Homicide Task Force and the Trenton Police Department are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred late Sunday evening in the city.AdMercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri reported that at approximately 10:25 p.m. on Sunday, March 17, Trenton patrol units responded to Bert Avenue on a shooting in progress.

Trenton detectives in the area on an unrelated assignment located the victim on the ground on St. Francis Avenue, officials stated. 

According to officials, the victim, identified as Andray Ingram, 34, of Trenton, sustained a gunshot wound to the chest and was transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a Bert Avenue homeowner fired multiple shots with a firearm he had in his home at an unknown individual with a hammer who was banging on his front door and smashing his Ring camera, officials say.

Authorities say the individual, identified as Ingram, had entered inside the structure of the residence in the vestibule area of the home at the time the shots were fired.

Officials said no charges have been filed, and the investigation is ongoing.
