The circumstances behind a fatal vehicular collision involving an off-duty Elizabeth Police Department officer are under investigation, acting Union County Prosecutor Thomas K. Isenhour announced Thursday.
The deceased motorist has been identified as Jairo Lozano, 29, of Elizabeth.
According to authorities, at approximately 11:20 p.m. on October 31st, Elizabeth Police Department patrol units were dispatched to the area of Elmora Avenue and Vine Street, according to the preliminary investigation, which is being conducted by the Union County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Task Force and Special Prosecutions Unit.
Lozano, who had been driving a motorcycle, was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, while the off-duty officer was uninjured.
