UPDATE: Fatal Crash Closes Lanes on Garden State Parkway for Hours in Brick Township

NJ State Police officials are looking into the cause of a crash that killed one person on the Garden State Parkway in Brick Township on Saturday evening.

According to NJ State Police, the crash occurred at approximately 5:22 pm on the Garden State Parkway, northbound at mile marker 93.3 in Brick Township.

Police say a Ford Explorer was traveling northbound, entered the right shoulder, and struck the rear of a parked Hyundai Santa Fe, which then hit the back of a parked Honda CR-V.

The drivers of the Hyundai and the Honda were not in their vehicles and were not injured. The driver of the Ford sustained minor injuries and was transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center, one occupant of the Hyundai sustained severe injuries and was transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center, and the other occupant of the Hyundai was pronounced dead at the scene according to NJ State Police officials.

The deceased is Rachel Upright, 15, from New Milford, PA according to State Police

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

The two right lanes were closed for about 3 hours officials said.
