Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose have announced that authorities are investigating a homicide that occurred on Thanksgiving Day in Newark's West Ward.

According to police, the incident happened shortly after 8:00 p.m. where Newark police officers were dispatched to the vicinity of 400 South Orange Avenue on a report of shots fired near Cozy Corner Bar.

Police said arriving officers found two males suffering from apparent gunshot wounds at that location.

EMS transported both victims to University Hospital, where doctors pronounced one of the males dead at 8:38 p.m., according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly, of the Prosecutor's Homicide Unit.

Chief Fennelly identified the victim as Mr. Terrance Harris, 46, of Newark but would not identify the remaining victim who suffered a non-life threatening gunshot wound.
