UPDATE: Elizabeth, Newark Residents Arrested After Chase Ends in Crash

Two people were arrested Friday after a police pursuit ended in a crash in Elizabeth.

According to authorities, on Feb. 1st around 1:33 p.m., police observed a vehicle run a stop sign and attempted to pull the vehicle over for a summons. Police say that driver didn’t stop, sped away and initiated a pursuit.

Officials say the suspect -at the intersection of Madison Avenue and Anna Street- struck a Nissan Altima causing their car to become disabled.

The driver and passenger were both apprehended by Elizabeth officers.

Police charged the Elizabeth resident with eluding, two counts of aggravated assault and causing bodily injury while fleeing officers. He was also issued numerous motor vehicle violations police said.

Police charged the passenger, a Newark resident, with seven outstanding warrants and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Authorities say three people suffered injuries including the driver.
