Update: Elizabeth Man Shot in Face in Attempted Robbery

A report of shots fired sent police to the 100 block of Community Lane Saturday evening, police said this morning.

Police were dispatched to 175 Community Lane at approximately 11:38 p.m., where responding officers found a 25-year-old city resident suffering from a gunshot wound to the face.

The victim told officers that as he was walking in the area of Second and South Park streets, he was confronted by three males in dark colored hooded sweatshirts.

The suspects demanded the victim empty his pockets.

At some point, according to the victim, one of the males produced a handgun and shot him in the face. The bullet entered his mouth area and exited. He then began to run until he could find help and call 911.

The suspects fled in an unknown direction.

He was transported to University Hospital in Newark where he was said to be in stable condition.

Detectives from the Elizabeth Police Dept. Detective Bureau are investigating.
