UPDATE: Elizabeth Man Shot Dead Near Gas Station

A fatal shooting that took place in Elizabeth on Sunday night is currently under investigation, acting Union County Prosecutor Lyndsay V. Ruotolo announced Monday morning. The victim has been identified as 19-year-old Haneef Brockington of Elizabeth.

According to Union Country Officials, shortly before 10:45 pm on Sunday, Elizabeth Police Department patrol units responded to a gas station parking lot in the 300 block of Morris Avenue.

There, officers found Brockington with multiple gunshot wounds, according to the preliminary investigation.

Police say Brockington was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene.

The joint investigation is active and ongoing, led by the Union County Homicide Task Force, and assisted by the Elizabeth Police Department, the Union County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit, and the Union County Police Department Ballistics Unit.
