Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose have announced that authorities are investigating an incident in which a male was fatally shot in Newark last night.
Accoridng to authorities, shortly before 11:00 p.m., Newark police officers were dispatched to the 100 block of 11th Avenue after receiving reports of shots fired.
Upon arrival, officers observed a male inside a vehicle suffering from apparent gunshot wounds at that location.
Medics pronounced the man dead at the scene at 11:11 p.m., according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly, of the Prosecutor's Homicide Unit.
Chief Fennelly identified the victim as Hasson Manning, 39, of Elizabeth.
This incident is being investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor's Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department.
The investigation is active and ongoing at this time, according to Fennelly.
