UPDATE: East Orange, Newark Men Fatally Shot in Newark's South Ward

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose have announced that authorities are investigating an incident in which two males were fatally shot in Newark, on Sunday evening.

According to authorities, at approximately 5:30 p.m., Newark police officers responded to the 400 block of Irvine Turner Boulevard on reports of shots fired.

Police said arriving officers observed two males within a vehicle suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

Medics pronounced the men dead a short time later, according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly of the Prosecutor's Homicide Unit.

Chief Fennelly identified the victims as Mr. Stefan Tinsley, 33, of East Orange, and Mr. Yasin Calloway, 26, of Newark.

This incident is being investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor's Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department. The investigation is active and ongoing at this time, according to Chief Fennelly.
