UPDATE: Driver Flees From Scene After Running Light, Ramming Car Onto Median

Elizabeth

Police have issued a male driver two tickets after he returned to the scene of a crash that left a second vehicle stuck on a concrete median.

According to police, sometime around 6:30 p.m., emergency responders rushed to the intersection of Westfield and Elmora avenues shortly after 6: 30 p.m., where they found a vehicle on its side, stuck on the concrete median.

The entrapped female driver was removed from the vehicle by the Elizabeth Fire Department. EMS treated the victim at the scene but she refused further medical attention.

As officers on the scene investigated, a male approached the officers and stated he was the one who struck the woman.

The driver reportedly ran the red light and struck the right side of the woman’s vehicle causing it to become lodged on top of the median.

Police issued the driver two tickets, one for leaving scene of an accident and failure to report an accident.

The Department of Transportation also responded to the scene after a traffic light pole was knocked down during the crash.
