Update: Driver in Elizabeth Truck Fire Unharmed

The driver of a utility truck escaped unharmed after the truck ignited in flames in the northbound lane of the New Jersey Turnpike in Elizabeth this morning.

According to police, the GMC utility truck caught fire near milepost 102.7 shortly after 8:30 a.m.

The driver escaped the blaze unharmed, according to police.

The Elizabeth Fire Department responded to the scene and placed the fire under control.

As of 9:15 a.m. the right lane of the outer roadway remained closed, causing delays in the area.
