The Union County Prosecutor's Office has taken the lead in the investigation into a double murder that left a mother and her young daughter dead inside a home in Roselle Wednesday.

Police were dispatched to 258 West 7th Avenue to investigate reports of suspicious activities around 9 a.m.

Family members became suspicious when the girl did not report to school that morning.

Sources told RLS Media that officers found a large amount of blood inside one of the home's bedrooms when they arrived. A further search revealed the severely bludgeoned bodies of a woman and a young girl.

Roselle Police issued this alert to the community while they investigated:

"East 7th Avenue between Locust and Pine St is closed due to a police investigation. Due to this investigation, out of an abundance of caution, a request to shelter in place was relayed to all of the area schools to which they complied. The lockdown has now been lifted".

Sources identified the victims as Ms. Keisha Morrison, 45, and her daughter Kelsey Morrison,10.

Double murder

The pair was reportedly found under a bed and pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities began searching for Ms. Morrisson's car and the girl's uncle, who sources say lived in the home.

The vehicle and the man were found in Maryland, but no official charges have been released to the public at this time.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
