The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation into a fatal shooting that claimed the life of one woman and left a woman seriously injured on Tuesday evening.
According to preliminary information, authorities were alerted around 6:20 p.m. when staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital notified police after two individuals entered the emergency room with gunshot wounds.
Responding detectives determined that the shooting occurred in East Side Park, located in the 600 block of Broadway in Paterson.
At the scene, officers recovered multiple shell casings, indicating a significant exchange of gunfire.
One of the victims succumbed to their injuries, while the second remains hospitalized in serious condition.
Investigators say the victims were shot while at the park. The motive behind the shooting remains unknown, and no additional victims were found at the location.
The suspect fled the scene and remains at large.
The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office is actively investigating the incident.
