UPDATE: Crash Leaves Four Severely Injured on Garden State Parkway

NJ State Police officials are looking into the cause of a crash that sent several people to the hospital in Monmouth County Saturday morning, 

According to NJ State Police, the collision occurred at 7:10 a.m. in the northbound lanes of the Garden State Parkway express lanes at milepost 120.3 in Aberdeen Twp.  

State Police officials said a preliminary investigation revealed that a BMW X5 was traveling north in the express lanes when it ran off the road to the left and struck a metal delineator post. 

Police said the vehicle re-entered the roadway, struck the right guardrail, and overturned.  

As a result, of the collision, NJ State Police officials said, three passengers were ejected and sustained severe injuries.  The driver also sustained serious injuries.  

Police say all occupants were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.  

The right express lane and the left two local lanes of the Garden State Parkway north were closed for approximately six hours resulting in heavy traffic congestion.  

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
