The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has been notified of a drowning that claimed a child's life Monday night.
At approximately 10:27 p.m., police were called to an apartment at 440 Washington Street to investigate reports of an injured child.
Upon arrival, police found the girl, around the age of 5-year-old who had taken in too much water after reportedly being submerged inside a bathtub in the residence on the 20th floor of the building.
The unidentified girl was pronounced dead a short time later by medical professionals.
The circumstances behind the drowning are under an active and ongoing investigation.
