Police in Carteret are investigating a stabbing incident that has a person fighting for their life in a hospital this afternoon.
According to a statement released by police, at approximately 11:20 a.m. the Carteret Police Department, Carteret Fire Department, and EMS responded to a residential address in the "Hill" section of Carteret for a reported suicide attempt.
Police say upon arrival, contact was made with a 62-year-old man with several self-inflicted stab wounds.
Carteret EMS transported the victim to Joseph Medwick Memorial Park and subsequentially airlifted by NJSP North Star to University Hospital in Newark for treatment.
Police say Private Nicolas Minue Elementary school was temporarily placed in lockdown status until North Star cleared from Joseph Medwick Memorial Park.
