UPDATE: Bronx Woman Killed in Newark Crash

NJ State Police officials are investigating a crash that killed a woman and injured two men on the NJ Turnpike in Newark Monday morning. 

According to State Police Sergeant Philip Curry, the crash occurred at 4:09 am in the NJ Turnpike southbound lanes at milepost 105.7 in Newark.  

Sergeant Curry said a preliminary investigation revealed that a Chevy Malibu became disabled in the right lane and was subsequently struck from behind by a Dodge Ram pickup truck.  

The Chevy then impacted the left concrete barrier and the Ram overturned. 

Sergeant Curry said the passenger inside Chevy, Ms. Monique Lucas, 55, of Bronx, NY, was killed and the driver Mr. Jermal Jordan, 33, and from Bronx, NY, suffered severe injuries. 

According to Sergeant Curry, the driver of the Ram, Mr. Maciej Lenczewski, 43, of Saddle Brook, NJ, suffered moderate injuries.

The southbound inner roadway was closed for approximately 5 hours resulting in moderate congestion.  

Sergeant Curry said the crash is still under investigation and there is no further information at this time.
