The body of a man recovered from the Passaic River Monday morning has prompted a joint investigation by the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, according to an information release.
The body was discovered in Kearny, but floated into Harrison, at approximately 8:00 a.m., by emergency crews responding to reports of a person floating in the river near Harrison Avenue and Passaic Avenue.
Although the recovery took place on the Harrison side, officials stated that the incident occurred in Kearny.
However, the body was pulled from the water in an area that borders both Harrison and Newark.
The individual’s identity remains unknown pending positive identification.
The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office said findings from the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office will be essential to determine both the cause and manner of death.
Authorities have not yet released additional details regarding foul play or the circumstances leading to the individual’s disappearance.
The case remains open, and officials encourage anyone with information to come forward.
We will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
