UPDATE: Body of Male Found Floating in Newark South Ward Lake Was Stabbed Multiple Times

Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, reported that the Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force is investigating the death of a man whose body was discovered in Newark's Weequahic Park's lake.

According to Prosecutor Stephens, on August 29, around 11 a.m., the Essex County Sheriff's Office received a report of a deceased body in Weequahic Park. Upon arrival at the scene, law enforcement officers located a body in the lake.

Prosecutor Stephens said the individual was pronounced deceased on-site at 11:06 a.m.

Presently, the man's identity remains unknown. The circumstances surrounding his death, along with the manner of death, are awaiting determination pending an autopsy.

Sources informed RLS Media that the man had suffered multiple stab wounds.

Authorities have yet to ascertain whether the victim was killed within the park or brought to the lake and left there.

The incident in the Newark South Ward lake is currently the subject of an active and ongoing investigation. As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the case.
