UPDATE: Bloomfield Woman Killed in Newark's Gunfire

Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose announced today that Shirlena Coke, 22, of Bloomfield was fatally shot yesterday at approximately 5:45 p.m. in the 700 block of South 19th Street in Newark.

In total, four people were shot – three males and Coke, who died from her injuries at University Hospital.

Two of the males were discovered at the scene when police arrived.

A fourth male later showed up at St. Barnabas Hospital, in Livingston, suffering from a gunshot wound.

The three males were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Their identities are being withheld for security reasons.

The fatal shooting is being investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department.

The investigation is active and ongoing.

Police said at this time, no suspects have been identified and no arrests have been made.
