UPDATE: Bicyclist Dies After Crashing into Tow Truck in Paterson

Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Chief Troy Oswald announce that at approximately 11:48 a.m., on Sunday police responded to the intersection of River Street and Sassafras Street in the City of Paterson in response to collision between a bicyclist and a tow truck.

Police say Mr. Antonino Barbera, 38 years old of Fair Lawn was operating a tow truck on River Street, when a bicyclist collided into the side of the tow truck.

The bicyclist, identified as 46-year-old Gerard Webb of Paterson, was transported to Saint Joseph’s University Hospital with serious injuries.

Police say Mr. Webb was pronounced deceased at 1:23 p.m.

According to police, Mr. Barbera presented a valid driver’s license and remained at the scene.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
