UPDATE: Barricade Situation in Newark’s South Ward Ends with Two Suspects in Custody

Police officials in Newark are continuing their investigation following a shots-fired incident that escalated into a barricade situation in the South Ward.NinosThe event took place (yesterday) on Monday, January 22, at around 9:23 a.m., when officers were summoned to the 200 block of Aldine Street after reports of gunfire.

Upon arrival, the responding officers found no victims, and no injuries were reported. The situation placed area schools on a shelter-in-place status.

However, they did observe property damage caused by the gunfire.

Police and detectives working the area located two suspects believed to be connected to the incident.

These individuals had taken refuge in a nearby building.

After a tense standoff, both suspects were successfully taken into custody for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.

As the investigation continues, police are working to piece together the events that led to the gunfire and the subsequent barricade, ensuring the safety and security of the South Ward community.
