UPDATE: Authorities Identify Man Shot Dead While Walking with his Young Child in Newark

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, and Interim Newark Public Safety Director Raul Malave announced today that the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department, is investigating the fatal shooting of Mr. Ronhazim Skipper, 48, of Newark.

Officials said on Wednesday, July 20, Newark Police responded to 300 block of Clinton Avenue at 6:53 p.m. on a report of a person shot.

Patrol units arrived and discovered the victim, who was later identified as Skipper. 

He was taken by EMS to University Hospital, where at 7:06 p.m. he was pronounced dead.  

The young child did not suffer physical injuries. 

The investigation is active and ongoing.

No arrests have been made.
