Newark -Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose announced today that the Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide/Major Task Force and the Newark Police Department are investigating a fatal shooting.
Police say Mr. Fred C. Sims, 29, of Newark was fatally shot last night in the 900 block of Frelinghuysen Ave.
According to police Sims was transported University Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 5:55 p.m.
The fatal shooting is under investigation and no arrests have been made.
