UPDATE: Authorities Identify Irvington Woman Killed by Hit-and-Run Vehicle in Newark

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose have announced that authorities are investigating an incident in which a pedestrian was struck by a motor vehicle in the area of 697 Springfield Avenue on Sunday evening.

According to authorities, at approximately 6:30 p.m., Newark police officers responded to this area on reports of a pedestrian being hit by a motor vehicle.

Arriving officers discovered an unresponsive female in the street authorities said.

The victim was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene at 6:51 p.m., according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly. She has been identified as **Josette Morales, age 47, of Irvington, NJ.**

The preliminary investigation indicates that the pedestrian was struck by a motor vehicle as she was attempting to cross Springfield Avenue.

The vehicle did not stop after striking the victim, according to Fennelly.

This incident is being investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor's Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department. The investigation is active and ongoing at this time.
