UPDATE: Arrest Made in Fatal Shooting of 38-Year-Old Jersey City Man

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has released the following information:

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit arrested and charged Bernard Wilson, 27, of Bayonne (image in white T-shirt), in connection with the shooting death of 38-year-old Abimael Fuentes (shown in image) on Tuesday night.

Police said just after 10:30 p.m., members of the Jersey City Police Department responded to shots fired on Brinkerhoff Street between Monticello Avenue and Bergen Avenue in Jersey City.

Responding officers found the victim, a Jersey City male, later identified as Abimael Fuentes with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

The victim was transported to the Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased at approximately 1:41 a.m.

The cause and manner of death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

Wilson was arrested early Wednesday morning at a residence on Brinkerhoff Avenue.

At the time of his arrest, he was found to be in possession of two firearms.

Wilson has been charged with murder in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3A(1)(2), a first-degree crime; two counts of Possession of a Weapon (firearm) for an Unlawful Purpose in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4A(1), a second-degree crime; two counts of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (firearm) in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5B(1), a second-degree crime; and Certain Persons Not to Possess a Weapon (Firearm) in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-7B, a second-degree crime.

Prosecutor Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department for the investigation and arrest.

The above charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6).
