UPDATE: 7-Year-Old Pedestrian Killed in Atlantic County Car Crash

The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Crash Investigations Unit is investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred Wednesday evening that killed a 7-year-old male pedestrian and injured a female pedestrian, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon G. Tyner announced.

Police say at 8:42 p.m., the Egg Harbor City Police Department responded to a pedestrian motor vehicle crash involving an adult female and a young child. Preliminary investigation shows a 2011 GMC Pickup truck was traveling west on the White Horse Pike approaching Buffalo Avenue.

At this time, an adult female and two young children were crossing the White Horse Pike when the female and one of the children were struck by the GMC truck.

The child was pronounced deceased at the scene and the female was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center City Division with life threatening injuries. The driver of the truck was identified as 30 year-old Jorge Rodriguez.

Police say Rodriguez was charged with Unlicensed Driver Involved in a Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash. Rodriguez was also issued a motor vehicle summons for being an unlicensed driver.

He was processed and released on a complaint-summons.

These charges are merely an accusation and not proof of guilt. In all criminal cases, a charged defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
