UPDATE: 6-Year-Old Child Who Fell from Window was Playing with Other Children

Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose announced today that the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department, is investigating a fatal fall.

A six-year-old girl sustained fatal injuries when she fell from a third-floor apartment in the 300 block of 14th Avenue shortly at approximately 11:40 p.m. yesterday.

The little girl has been identified as Yodia Encarnacion.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the child was playing with other children and fell out of an open window. She was transported to University Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 4:32 am.

The investigation is active and ongoing. No criminal charges have been filed at this time.
