UPDATE: $5K Crime Stoppers Reward Offered in Murder at Newark Cemetery

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, announced today that Essex County Sheriff Armando Fontoura’s Crime Stoppers Program is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the murder of Alexander Jones, 51, of Newark.

According to county officials, on December 8, a body was discovered in the Hebrew Cemetery located at 442 South 19th Street in Newark.

An autopsy concluded the cause of death was blunt and sharp force trauma.

After the victim was identified, his next of kin was notified.

The homicide is being investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force which included detectives from the Newark Police Department. Authorities are seeking help from the public.
