UPDATE: 39-Year-Old Newark Man Killed in East Orange Shooting

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office reported today that the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force is investigating the fatal shooting yesterday of Mr. Omar Johnson-Pilgrim, 39, of Newark.

Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens said that on June 1, at 2:44 p.m. police responded to a report of shots fired in the 100 block of Steuben Street in East Orange. 

Upon arrival, police located Johnson-Pilgrim suffering from gunshot wounds. 

He was transported to University Hospital in Newark and pronounced dead at 3:52 p.m.

Residents told RLS Media that an armed man operating a scooter pulled up to a vehicle with Johnson-Pilgrim inside and began firing repeatedly. 

The investigation is active and ongoing. No arrests have been made.
