UPDATE: 38-Year-Old Pennsylvania Man Killed in I-287 Car Fire in Wanaque

The New Jersey State Police are investigating a car fire that killed one on I-287 in Wanaque on Tuesday night.

Police report that the accident happened in the northbound lanes around milepost 55.9 at approximately 10:15 p.m.

According to a preliminary investigation, a BMW that was traveling north went off of the road and through the guardrail on the right. The vehicle overturned and subsequently caught fire.

Police stated that Syed Hassan, 38, of Bethlehem, PA, the driver of the BMW, was pronounced dead at the scene.

There were no other passengers or vehicles involved in the crash.

The accident remains under investigation by the State Police.
