The fatal shooting of an Essex County man in Hillside last night is under active investigation, acting Union County Prosecutor Lyndsay V. Ruotolo announced Monday.
The victim has been identified as Mr. Rafee H. Carter, 27, of Newark.
According to police, at approximately 9:15 p.m. on Sunday, March 29, Hillside Police Department patrol units responded to a report of a shooting on the 1400 block of Center Street, where they found Carter, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds, according to the preliminary investigation.
Officials say he was subsequently transported to Newark’s University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
This matter remains under active joint investigation by the Union County Homicide Task Force, Hillside Police Department, Union County Police Department Ballistics Unit, and Union County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit.
