NEWARK –Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Police Director Eugene Venable announced today that the Newark Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force are investigating the fatal shooting of Loren Stokes, 27, of Newark.
According to authorities, Stokes was shot at approximately 8:30 p.m. in the vicinity of 49 New Fairview Avenue in Newark. He was rushed to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 8:42 pm yesterday.
Authorities said this time no arrests have been made. The motive is unclear.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
