The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has confirmed a shooting that resulted in fatal injuries overnight in Newark's North Ward.
According to a statement released by officials, the shooting happened at around 10:45 p.m. in the 100 block of Parker Street sending police to the scene where they found the victim, Mr. Jose Colon, 27, suffering injuries after being shot at that location.
Authorities say medical staff pronounced Colon dead at around 10:58 p.m.
The investigation into the shooting is in its early stages, and there were no arrests reported.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has taken over the investigation.
