UPDATE: 27-Year-Old Allentown PA Woman Severely Injured in Garden State Parkway Crash in Cranford

NJ State Police officials are investigating the cause of a crash that injured a Pennsylvania woman on a highway in Union County on Sunday morning. 

State Police officials said Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash in the Northbound lanes of the Garden State Parkway at milepost 137.9 in Cranford Township around 4:44 am.  

A preliminary investigation revealed that a Mazda and an Acura were traveling north on the highway in the area of milepost 137.9 when the Acura rear-ended the Mazda.

State Police officials said the Mazda traveled off the roadway to the right, then struck a tree and the Acura subsequently caught fire.  

As a result of the crash, the driver of the Mazda, identified as Ms. Mafer Fermin Pena, 27, of Allentown, PA, sustained severe injuries and was transported to an area hospital for treatment.  

The investigation is active and ongoing.
