UPDATE: 23-Year-Old North Carolina Man Shot Dead Inside Smoke Shop in Jersey City

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are investigating the shooting death of a 23-year-old man on Danforth Avenue in Jersey City on Sunday, April 23, 2023. 

According to Prosecutor Suarez, at approximately midnight, the Jersey City Police Department received a report of shots fired in the area of Danforth Avenue in Jersey City.

Upon arrival, prosecutor Suarez said responding Jersey City officers located an unresponsive male victim.

Police identified the victim as Mr. Khalil King of Fayetteville, North Carolina. He was inside a retail establishment located at 152 Danforth Avenue with an apparent gunshot wound.

Prosecutor Suarez said King was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 12:16 a.m. The Cause and Manner of death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office. 

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are actively investigating this case.

No arrests have been made at this time.
