Newark -- Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose announced today that the Newark Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force are investigating a fatal shooting.
Authorities said at approximately 2:30 a.m., William Porter, 23, of Newark was shot in the vicinity of 18 Oliver Street.
He was pronounced dead at University Hospital at 5:46 am.
At this time the investigation is active and ongoing.
No arrests have been made at this time.
