UPDATE: 21-Year-Old Woman Seriously Injured in Marlboro Crash

Marlboro Township Police Department received a report of a motor vehicle accident on Route 18 North in the area of Tennent Road.

Officials say Sgt. Andrew Del Cora located the vehicle, a white 2011 Jeep Wrangler operated by a 21-year-old female from Eatontown.

Police say the vehicle ran off the road for an unknown reason, struck the bridge abutment for Tennent Road and came to rest on its side.

The driver was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be extricated by emergency personnel. The driver was flown to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital via medical helicopter with serious injuries.

Route 18 North was closed to traffic between Route 79 and Route 9 between 9:39 pm and 3:30 am while the accident was being investigated.

The identity of the driver is being withheld at this time pending notifications. The cause of the accident is being investigated by Ptlm. David Stattel of the Marlboro Township Police Traffic and Safety Unit DStattel@marlboropd.org (732) 536-0304.

Responding to the accident scene included members of the New Jersey State Police, Morganville First Aid Squad, Marlboro First Aid Squad, Robertsville Fire Department, Marlboro Fire Department, MONOC Paramedics, Hackensack Meridian Health, and New Jersey State Department.
