UPDATE: 19-Year-Old Man Shot in the Head in Elizabeth Dies

The Union County Prosecutor's Office has taken over the investigation into a shooting that killed a teenaged adult early Saturday night.

According to preliminary information, police responded to reports of shots fired that rang out at approximately 7 p.m. in the vicinity of 544 East Jersey Street where fast responding Elizabeth Police officers arrived to find a severely injured male suffering a bullet wound in his head.

Officials told RLS Metro Breaking News that the critically injured 19-year-old Carlos Rodriguez was rushed to University Hospital in Newark where he died a short time later.

According to reports, the armed suspect fired multiple time at the victim while some of his family members watched in horror. Police say the suspect is described as a black male, dressed in all in grey, who fled westbound on East Jersey Street immediately after the shooting. He remains at-large according to police.

Union County Homicide task force and Union County Sheriff's Office arrived at the scene for the investigation.
