UPDATE: 18-Year-Old Shot Dead in Newark

Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, and Newark Public Safety Director Brian O’Hara reported today that the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department, is investigating the fatal shooting of Nazier Taylor, 18, of Newark.

Police said on Sunday, Dec. 25 at approximately 7:54 p.m. the victim was dropped off by car at East Orange General Hospital suffering from a gunshot wound.

Police said Taylor was transported to University Hospital in Newark. 

Two days later he succumbed to his injuries. 

He was pronounced dead on Dec. 28, at 6:15 p.m.

The preliminary investigation indicates the shooting occurred on Columbia Avenue in Newark.

At this time no arrests have been made.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
