UPDATE: 18-Year-Old-Man Killed in Irvington Township Gunfire

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II and Irvington Public Safety Director Tracy Bowers have announced that authorities are investigating the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old male in Irvington on Wednesday afternoon.

Officials say shortly before 3:00 p.m., Irvington police officers responded to the 1100 block of Clinton Avenue on reports of a shooting.

Arriving units located the victim, who was suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

The victim was rushed to University Hospital in Newark, where he was pronounced dead at 3:27 p.m.

The victim has been identified as Mr. Marquise Jenkins, 18,of Irvington, according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly of the Prosecutor's Homicide Unit.

This incident is being investigated by the Prosecutor’s Homicide Task Force, which includes detectives from the Irvington Police Department.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
