NJ State Police officials said the crash was reported at 10 p.m. in the southbound lanes of the NJ Turnpike in the inner roadway at mile marker 95.3 in Carteret. Police said an Acura traveling south struck an unknown vehicle, went off the road to the left and struck a guardrail.
The driver, Mr. Bilah Edmondson, 28, of Troy, NY, sustained minor injuries. A rear sear passenger, Ms. Kaytlen Nivar, 18, of Bronx, NY, sustained fatal injuries. Three additional passengers in the vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to area hospitals. The inner roadway was closed for approximately 4 hours, police said. The crash remains under investigation.
